SERVICES

Rising electricity prices, increased legislative environmental reporting and the potential introduction of the Emission Trading Scheme all put pressure on the financial bottom line for Australian companies. In order to review the risk and/or opportunity, companies should look at their environmental strategy and plan ahead for the future. In the first instance, the carbon intensive industry (mining, utilities, refineries, heavy manufacturing) will be impacted, however as these companies will on charge their increased costs, downstream companies will be affected as well. If companies want to manage future risk, they will have to incorporate future energy and carbon prices into their strategic thinking. The next step is to bring it down to a process level, i.e. tracking energy and carbon at a process level which requires a solution in information management.

Our Approach

Environmental and Energy Management Solutions

Energy Monitoring & Base Building Infrastructure

OUR APPROACH

Bluestone Energy has a unique approach to assist customers with their energy and environmental management requirements. Our engineering background coupled with broad business knowledge will guarantee practical solutions for energy, environmental and base building infrastructure challenges. Our services and delivery model is demonstrated below:

ENVIRONMENTAL AND ENERGY MANAGEMENT SOLUTIONS

Our services in this area comprise of:

  • Strategic Review of information needs for energy monitoring and environmental reporting;

  • Review of the existing processes and software solutions to determine data requirements for energy monitoring  and environmental information;

  • Assist in developing a business case for procuring energy monitoring and environmental reporting solutions;

  • Design of energy monitoring and environmental reporting requirements;

  • Facilitate the procurement process of selecting a suitable solution;

  •  Project management of the implementation of the selected solution.

The development of an energy and emissions solution should align with a company's environmental strategy and policy. Bluestone Energy has developed a 7-step approach covering the following areas:
Activity
  Scope
Develop Environmental Framework
: To determine the scope of the environmental strategy, i.e. focus on company energy and emissions versus incorporating customers, suppliers, partners' energy usage and emissions.

Determine Baseline
: Determine the baseline year for energy consumption and emission calculations, document the calculation methodology, calculate energy consumption and emissions and publish the results.

Identify Abatement Opportunities : Identify all possible energy consumption and emission reduction strategies for your industry.

Develop Marginal Abatement Cost Curve
: The Marginal Abatement Cost Curve (MACC) is a tool to help organisations to understand the financial trade-offs associated with each abatement opportunity. MACCs provide an assessment of the level of emissions reduction which a range of measures could deliver at a given point in time, against a projected baseline level of emissions. They show how much CO2 each measure could save (the level of abatement potential) and the associated cost per tonne of CO2. MACCs assist business in deciding which abatement projects give potential savings in the long term.

Implement Selected Abatement Opportunities : After developing the MACC for the abatement opportunities into a business case, a company will select which abatement projects will be implemented.

Embed Environment & Energy into Processes : The next step is to embed energy and emission / carbon awareness into your people, processes and systems and manage these criteria as additional Key Performance Indicators in your business.

The backbone of Bluestone Energy's approach is the presence of an energy and emissions reporting tool, so a company can measure their baseline and actual reductions along the way.

ENVIRONMENTAL TECHNOLOGY

As of August 2009 there are over 100 energy monitoring and environmental reporting solutions currently available in the Australian market and new approaches are entering the market on a regular basis. At the same time, regulatory corporate energy and environmental reporting requirements are in flux. These factors make it difficult for corporations to determine the optimum technical strategy to best meet their obligations effectively now and in the future.

Not all energy and environmental management systems are the same. Whilst most claim to do all and be all it is quite common that a particular piece of reporting software will have it's origins in a certain field and so will satisfy some requirements very well whilst performing quite ordinarily in other areas.

Bluestone Energy can deliver clarity around the environmental reporting and energy metering systems market and associated technologies. BE is committed to cut through the industry salesmanship and identify the best solutions to suit clients metering imperatives, reporting requirements and budgets for a building, portfolio of buildings, the building services therein, and/or the enterprise at large.

Bluestone Energy's approach is to identify a client's unique requirements, assess the current management systems and determine whether there is a need for additional management solution for energy monitoring and environmental reporting. Assessing existing enterprise management systems and the regulatory environment in which the client operates is imperative to effective and economical system selection and delivery.

BE is uniquely positioned in the market as an independent provider of energy and environmental management, advice and solutions.
